There must have been something nice that happened along the way!!!??!!! You could be friendlier to hire boaters for example to help brighten up you day...they are learning and after all if you are so experienced you could teach them rather than mock! As for hippy lone boaters...well! How DARE they be on YOUR waterway? The cheek of it! I was under the impression that boaters were nice friendly helpful people!
